How Era handles information

Effective April 19, 2026. Era is a parent-managed reading app operated by the Erasmus Labs team for families. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, which service providers help us process it, and how parents can review, correct, export, or delete family data.

Who operates Era

Era is operated by the Erasmus Labs team as a family reading and narration service. Erasmus Labs is based in California, USA. Before public launch, we will keep this page updated with the current support contact and any required legal entity or mailing-address details.

  • To delete your account and all associated family data, use the in-app delete account flow — deletion happens directly in Era and wipes all family data automatically.
  • For privacy, account, child data, voice data, export, or Apple review questions, contact [email protected].
  • Please do not send unnecessary child details, payment information, story text, or raw voice files by email.

Children's privacy and parental rights

Era is designed for parents and legal guardians to manage on behalf of their family. Children should not create accounts, submit information, or record voices on their own. We ask the adult to confirm parent or guardian consent before child setup, personalized reading features, and family voice features.

  • Parents can review, correct, export, or delete child profile, reading, voice, and generated-content data by using in-app controls or contacting support.
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without parent or guardian involvement.
  • If you believe a child provided information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will investigate and delete it where required.

Parent account information

We collect information needed to create, secure, and support the parent or guardian account.

  • Account identifiers, display name, email address when provided by Apple, Sign in with Apple identifiers, authentication tokens, and session metadata.
  • Subscription status, entitlement state, product identifiers, purchase history needed to unlock premium features, and App Store transaction validation results.
  • Support messages, account deletion requests, digest preferences, parental consent records, policy version accepted, and related timestamps.

Child profile information

A parent may create one or more child profiles so Era can tune stories and recommendations to the family reading context. We ask for limited profile details and do not need a child's full legal name.

  • Child nickname or profile name, birth month, birth year, estimated age, reading level offset, selected current child profile, and family reading preferences.
  • Reading mode settings, parent PIN state, book language preference, and saved app preferences used to keep the child experience consistent.
  • We use child profile information to select age-appropriate book variants, adjust reading difficulty, and show relevant library content.

Voice samples, embeddings, and generated narration

Voice features are optional premium features. If a parent or authorized speaker records a voice, we process that temporary sample only to create narration requested by the family for Era books.

  • We upload and process the raw voice sample temporarily to create the requested family voice embedding. After the embedding is created, we delete the raw sample from active storage.
  • If embedding creation fails, the temporary sample may remain briefly so the parent can retry or delete the voice profile.
  • We may keep recording duration, speaker label such as Mom or Dad, upload metadata, and replacement/deletion history.
  • We may create and store a derived voice embedding or voice profile identifier so future narration can be generated without asking the user to repeat setup every time.
  • Generated narration may include audio files, per-page status, job progress, language, book and variant identifiers, and generated voice metadata.
  • We do not use family voice samples, embeddings, or generated narration to train general AI models, create voices for other users, sell advertising, or identify the speaker outside the requested Era feature.
  • Parents can replace or delete recorded voices. Generated audio that used an older voice may remain available until the parent deletes it or deliberately regenerates it.

Generated audio and alignment files

When narration is generated, Era may also create timing data so the app can underline or highlight text during playback.

  • Audio files, generated voice job records, page numbers, language, age variant, book identifiers, audio URLs, and processing status.
  • Alignment files containing word or phrase timing data, used only to synchronize text highlighting with audio.
  • Error messages and processing logs needed to debug failed generation jobs and avoid incomplete audio.

Generated stories, images, translations, and library data

Era stores generated and published reading content so families can open books again, switch available languages, and keep reading progress in sync.

  • Book titles, authors, categories, source story identifiers, age variants, language variants, page text, translated text, and page order.
  • Cover images, page illustrations, image prompts and generation metadata where needed to reproduce or repair content.
  • Library filters, unlocked/free book state, recently opened books, reading progress, page read events, completed books, and weekly digest summaries.

Analytics, diagnostics, and crash logs

Era uses limited first-party product analytics and crash diagnostics to understand whether the app works, where families get stuck, and which reliability issues need attention.

  • First-party Era analytics may receive screen views, taps, selections, success/error states, coarse subscription or guest state, app version, device model, operating system, and non-sensitive book or variant identifiers.
  • Self-hosted GlitchTip crash diagnostics, using the Sentry SDK, may receive crash stack traces, device and OS details, app version, session state, breadcrumbs, and diagnostic logs needed to reproduce crashes.
  • We intentionally avoid sending child names, emails, voice recordings, transcripts, story prompts, generated story text, authentication tokens, or payment details in analytics events.
  • We do not use behavioral advertising, retargeting, or third-party ad networks in Era.

Payments and subscriptions

Subscriptions and purchases are handled through Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on the device. Era receives the information needed to validate access and provide premium features, but we do not receive full payment card numbers from Apple or Google.

  • App Store or Google Play product identifiers, entitlement state, transaction identifiers or purchase tokens where provided, renewal status, trial eligibility, and cancellation/expiration status.
  • We use this information to unlock premium features, prevent fraud, restore purchases, and provide support.

Emails and notifications

If enabled, Era may send parent-facing emails or notifications about account, subscription, reading progress, generation status, and weekly reading digests.

  • Email address, digest preference, delivery status, and email provider logs.
  • Push notification token and generation-complete notification metadata if notifications are enabled on the device.
  • Weekly reading digest content may include family reading progress, recently read books, and summary statistics.

Device, network, and security information

We collect technical information needed to operate, secure, debug, and improve Era.

  • IP address, request timestamps, API routes, device type, app version, operating system version, language, locale, and coarse region inferred from network information.
  • Server logs, rate-limiting records, authentication attempts, error traces, and security audit information.
  • We use this information for security, abuse prevention, debugging, uptime monitoring, and service quality.

Third-party processors

We use service providers to operate Era. They process information only as needed to provide services to Era and are not allowed to use family data for their own unrelated purposes.

  • Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store subscriptions, purchase restoration, and device notification delivery.
  • Google for Google sign-in, Google Play subscriptions, purchase restoration, and Android platform services.
  • Cloudflare and self-hosted infrastructure for routing, hosting, storage, security, and media delivery.
  • Self-hosted GlitchTip crash diagnostics using the Sentry SDK for crash and reliability reports.
  • Resend for parent reading digest and transactional emails.
  • Self-hosted AI services for requested parent voice, narration, story, translation, image, and alignment generation.

No sale, advertising, or unrelated voice use

We do not sell personal information. We do not sell children's personal information. We do not use family voice samples or embeddings for ads, behavioral advertising, general model training, or other users' content.

  • We may create aggregated or de-identified product metrics, but we do not publish or share them in a way that identifies a family or child.
  • We do not knowingly use child profile data for targeted advertising.

Retention, deletion, and export

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably needed for the family reading purpose, account operation, security, support, legal obligations, or backup recovery.

  • Account and subscription records are kept while the account is active and as needed for security, fraud prevention, support, tax, or legal requirements.
  • Child profiles, reading progress, generated books, voice profiles and embeddings, generated audio, and alignment files are kept while they are needed for the family's library and voice features. Temporary raw voice samples are deleted from active storage after embedding creation succeeds.
  • Optional analytics and product events are retained for up to 14 months unless they are aggregated, de-identified, or needed longer for security or legal reasons.
  • Server logs, security logs, rate-limiting records, and operational diagnostics are generally retained for up to 90 days unless needed longer to investigate abuse, fraud, reliability, or legal issues.
  • Parents can delete their account directly from inside the Era app. Account deletion automatically removes the parent account, child profiles, family voices, generated narration, synced reading data, and generated-content records, subject to legal, security, backup, and fraud-prevention exceptions.
  • Operational backups may retain deleted data for up to 90 days before aging out through normal backup rotation.
  • For review, correction, or export of family data, parents can contact support.

Security

We use technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards designed to protect Era data based on sensitivity and risk.

  • We use authenticated API access, server-side access controls, encrypted transport where supported, infrastructure isolation, and operational logs.
  • No internet service is perfectly secure, so parents should keep devices and Apple accounts secure and contact us if they suspect unauthorized access.

Contact

Account deletion is available directly from inside the Era app and wipes all family data automatically. For privacy questions, parental rights requests, account support, or export requests, contact [email protected]. Please include enough information for us to identify the parent account, but do not send unnecessary child, payment, or voice data by email.

Privacy choices and family data requests

Parents and legal guardians can use this page as the starting point to manage Era privacy choices, family data requests, consent records, voice data, generated audio, and reading digest preferences.

What parents can request

Parents and legal guardians can ask Era to review, correct, export, or delete family data associated with the parent account.

  • Review or export parent account, child profile, reading progress, voice profile, generated narration, generated book, and consent history data.
  • Correct child profile details, parent contact details, reading settings, or digest preferences.
  • Delete or replace a recorded voice, voice profile, generated narration, or the full Era account.
  • Withdraw consent for optional voice features, analytics sharing, notifications, or weekly reading digest emails where those choices apply.

How to make a request

For account deletion, use the in-app delete account flow — it removes all family data automatically. For other requests, email [email protected] from the parent account email if possible. Include the request type and enough information to identify the Era account, but do not send unnecessary child details, payment information, or raw voice files by email.

Verification and timing

We verify requests against the parent account before making changes to family data. We aim to respond within up to 30 days where required by applicable privacy law, and we may ask for additional verification if needed to protect a child or family account.

Voice and generated audio choices

Parents can delete or replace family voices in the app. Generated audio made from an older voice may remain available until the parent deletes it or deliberately regenerates that book audio with a newer voice.

Deletion and retention after a request

Account deletion can be triggered directly inside the Era app and runs automatically — the parent account, child profiles, family voices, generated narration, synced reading data, and generated-content records are removed, subject to security, backup, fraud-prevention, payment, tax, and legal exceptions. Operational backups may retain deleted data for up to 90 days before aging out.

Digest, notification, and analytics choices

Weekly reading digest and notification preferences can be changed in the app where available. Optional analytics are controlled by the app's consent settings. Crash diagnostics are used only for app reliability and are not used for behavioral advertising.
